چکیده

Objective: Sodium benzoate (NaB), a commonly used food additive, is effective in preventing deterioration and/or spoilage of foods and drinks. While there have been reports suggesting its potential use as an adjunct schizophrenia management; lack information on effects the brain, especially when added to dry foods. This study examined NaB rodent feed neurobehavior, antioxidant status, anti-inflammatory apoptotic markers mouse brain. Method: Animals were divided into 4 groups 10 mice each. Groups included normal control (fed with chow) 3 fed at 125, 250 500 mg/kg, respectively, for eight weeks. Open field, elevated plus maze (EPM), Y-maze, radial-arm behaviors assessed day 57, following animals euthanized 24 hours after behavioral test. Whole-brain homogenate processed assessment inflammatory/apoptotic markers, acetylcholinesterase activity. Results: The diet altered body weight, open-field behaviors, working-memory, anxiety indices. Brain tumor necrosis factor-? interleukin-10 decreased, while malondialdehyde, caspase-3 level, activity increased. Conclusion: results this revealed that addition these concentrations chow was associated memory loss, anxiety, oxidative stress increased vigilance use.

On the pro-oxidant effects of haemozoin.

Haemozoin (Hz) is a haem aggregate produced in some blood-feeding organisms. There is a general belief that Hz formation would be a protective mechanism against haem toxicity. Here we show that when aggregated into Hz, haem is less deleterious than its free form. When haem was added to phosphatidylcholine (PC) liposomes, there was an intense stimulation of oxygen consumption, which did not occu...

The Pro-inflammatory Effects of Glucocorticoids in the Brain

Glucocorticoids are a class of steroid hormones derived from cholesterol. Their actions are mediated by the glucocorticoid and mineralocorticoid receptors, members of the superfamily of nuclear receptors, which, once bound to their ligands, act as transcription factors that can directly modulate gene expression. Through protein-protein interactions with other transcription factors, they can als...

Anti-Oxidant, Pro-Oxidant and Anti-Inflammatory Effects of Unpolished Rice Relevant to Colorectal Cancer

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a major worldwide health problem owing to its high prevalence and mortality rates. Carcinogenesis in the colon is a multistage and multifactorial process. An imbalance between free radical exposure and anti-oxidant defense systems may leads to oxidative stress and attack of macromolecules which can alter signal transduction pathways and gene expression. Consequently, ...

Effects of Pantoprazole on Systemic and Gastric Pro- and Anti-inflammatory Cytokines in Critically Ill Patients

Stress-related mucosal damage (SRMD) is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality in critically ill patients due to the gastrointestinal blood loss. Prophylaxis of SRMD with proton pump inhibitors or histamine-2 blockers has gained widespread use in intensive care units. Both demonstrated to be effective in reducing clinically significant bleedings, while PPIs has shown to exert some anti ...
